The No to Bases initiative staged a demonstration on the 17th of November 2008 in Prague. Approximately one thousand citizens took part in the action. Speeches were delivered by the spokespersons of the Initiative, the mayor of Trokavec village Jan Neoral and by the Charter 77 signatory and political prisoner of the former communist regime Petr Uhl. On the platform, there also appeared popular director Zdeněk Troška and politician Jan Kavan, ex-president of the United Nations General Assembly.

Then, the protest against the planned US military base and the marginalization of people's critical view on it continued as a march toward the seat of government, where participants put down lighted candles.
