12.3.2009: Football happening of the Initiative
22.3.2009 - The No Bases Initiative
On Thursday 12th March 2009, Prague hosted a meeting of Defence ministers of the EU member states. To mark the occasion, the No Bases Initiative organized a happening entitled "The Ultimate football game".
The home team consisted of the Initiative's spokespersons, who were defending the goalpost of the Czech republic from a ball symbolizing the US radar. This ball was being kicked about by the representatives of the various EU states, together with the Union's foreign policy and defence frontman, Javier Solana. No wonder that – given the unclear or cautious stance displayed by most of the players – the ball ended up in an 'out' position...
The action aimed to draw attention to the delicate, yet unnecessary problem of the radar affair that is being caused by current Czech government in Europe.
