Czech policemen will join demonstration for democracy

Union of Security Forces of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech
Republic will join national demonstration for Democracy that will take
place this Saturday in Prague. The Union is joining “No to the Bases”
initiative, students, mayors and other groups in order to protest
against violations of democratic principles, Czech Constitution and the
Declaration of Basic Rights, to protest against senseless financial
reform and against the planned new entry of foreign soldiers on Czech
territory with the US National Missile Defense project.
The Union comprises of hundreds of policemen, firemen, customs officers,
prison warders, judiciary security personnel and former workers of Czech
public security forces. The chairman of the Union will also speak at a
press conference this Wednesday at 11am in Prague’s Manes gallery.
The “No to the Bases” initiative formed in July 2006 and currently
unites more than 60 Czech and international organizations opposing the
US plan to establish a new military base in the Czech Republic as part
of the National Missile Defense (NMD) System. It calls for a national
